Housekeeping

Hello Dear Readers,

Here’s a bit of what’s going on here with me in lovely Northeast Louisiana:

– on a personal note, my beloved Matsi passed away at the end of March. We miss her so much but know she’s free of pain and running and jumping and bugging her sister, Rayne, across the Rainbow Bridge in the Field of Flowers 🐺🌈💐 (Witch Dance reference if you’ve read it 😉) Love our sweet and brave girl!

– In book news, I am knee deep into the 9th (NINTH😍😍😍) Counterplay book, titled Missing. For those of you who follow the series, I’ll reveal a small spoiler – THIS is the book where we discover the Caissy Family Secret. No more diversions or Red Herrings, this is the real deal! I’d been looking forward to writing this scene for several years now and I wasn’t disappointed, and I feel pretty sure it will live up to the hype it’s been given over the past several books.

Misplaced (Counterplay Book 7) or as I like to call it, the Hurricane book, has come back from my editor (shout out to the amazingly talented Emily Lawrence) and will be headed to my beta readers soon. I hope for a mid-June release date and I will place this one on pre-order so keep checking back for updates.

Misdirection will be FREE for a limited time only! I’ve decided to take it off perma-free and set the prequel (Misaligned) to $0. So if you or your friends are interested in the Counterplay series, get this book for FREE while it last.

– interested in Counterplay but don’t want to commit to all the books just yet? Check out my short story on Instafreebie. It’s less than 1500 words but will tell you all you need to know about the murder, sex, and intrigue that is this series.

Blurb – Helen invites an old friend to lunch, but she has more on her mind than simply catching up. Taking place more than thirty years before the start of the Counterplay prequel, Monster delves into the psyche of beloved Caissy matriarch, Helen, her tumultuous past with ruthless Bob O’Malley, and the tragic, abominable decision that changed and shaped both their families.

That’s about all in my world. Hope all of you are enjoying Spring!

5 Years in Publishing: A Reflection

From my dear friend, Sarah. What an accomplishment!! The best is yet to come.

...and then there was Sarah

being-a-good-writerYesterday was my 5 Year Publishing Anniversary (or “Pubiversary” as some of us call it. Authors are allowed to make up words, right?). The day was a busy one for unrelated reasons, so I didn’t get to celebrate as I should have. But five years is a long time, and my celebration will come in the form of reflection.

The last five years might as well have been fifty for how much has changed for me as a direct result of publishing my work.

Let’s back up further, to 2000. I was watching TV with my husband (we weren’t married yet, though; not until the following year). A single line popped into my head: “It was raining the day I buried my wife.” Depressing, right? But if you’re a creative type, like me, depressing ideas often become opportunities. I was struck with the overwhelming certainty I was meant to write…

What I’m Working On

If you aren’t reading Sarah M. Cradit, you should be. Here’s what’s coming for her over the next several months.

...and then there was Sarah

From time to time, I like to check in and let readers know what I’m working on.

In somewhat random, somewhat relevant order:

  1. The Secrets Amongst the Cypress (House of Crimson & Clover Volume 8)– The first draft is complete, and I’m preparing to jump in for the next phase, which includes a lot of edits and rewrites. The cover reveal for the book is coming on July 31 (as well as the pre-order links), and it releases October 25th. The story involves Jacob and Amelia’s travel back to nineteenth century Louisiana.
  2. Text Message Serials– My co-writing murder mystery series/serial with Becket has one book complete (The Bee in the Golden Spiral) and a second in development. We will be announcing our publishing plans for this in the not-too-distant future, so stay tuned!
  3. The Last Dryad (The Complex)– A novella part of the broader multi-author sci-fi project…

So You Want to Self Publish

A wonderful post about the benefits and drawbacks of self-publishing.

...and then there was Sarah

being-a-good-writer.jpegI am often asked some variant of the question: “I’ve written a book. How do I self-publish it?” The question, as well as the answer, can feel overwhelming. Certainly whenever I’m asked, I often think, where do I start? What level of detail do I share? How much of my time can I give to assisting?
Time is unfortunately a commodity I have very little of nowadays, but I also love to help others, especially those serious about pursuing their creative endeavors. This article attempts to achieve that balance.
What This Is: The basics to get someone started in publishing, to get their feet wet. To literally get a book for sale and ready to market. Things you need to know before you publish, and the places you can go to do so.
What This Is Not: An all-inclusive guide to self-publishing. There’s no way I could cram 5+ years…

Madisonville Lighthouse 1

Hey y’all…

For whatever reason, I’ve not been keeping up with the blog and I hate that. I’ll do better. It’s been a crazy few months around here with a mixture of both good and bad situations consuming my time, and I’m ready to embrace this New Year with open arms. A few points of interest…

  • We’ve got a paperback giveaway on Goodreads NOW!!
  • The Foundation is still FREE on all vendors. Links at the end of the post.
  • The Wanting is with beta readers, and I’m anticipating an early to mid-January release. Just when you think The Waiting Series couldn’t get any crazier, Book 3 takes it up to a whole new level.
  • At the end of November, I finished the first novelette for the series. The title is Endlessly and it’s the story of what really happened to Garrison Adams. This story got me. I don’t know if it was where I was at that moment in life, or actually the story’s content, but I was so broken over this man’s death. At first, I thought I was simply writing it for me to get a clearer picture about who did what and the timeline of events, but I’ve decided to publish this one, likely in the summertime.

Madisonville Lighthouse 2

  • The Flood (novella after The Wanting) will go to Kathy in May (if I remember correctly)
  • All these pictures were taken with my new Christmas present. I’ve been after this Madisonville lighthouse on the Northshore of New Orleans for a long time now and I couldn’t be any more pleased with the results.
  • There will be an extremely long break between TWS books after The Wanting… and here’s why… I’ve started a new series. I didn’t believe it was possible to love new characters as much as I do TWS cast, but it is! One thing that’s been fun is that The Hopewell Coven is set in New Orleans and surrounding areas also, so I stay connected to my other people in a roundabout way. Tentatively, I have three books planned, likely all larger novellas and tailored more towards younger audiences as well as adults who enjoy that sort of genre.
  • Hope y’all have a very Merry Christmas. It’s low-key for us with our 2nd annual Harry Potter-thon.

City of my Heart

Not my town not my town not my town

I will likely be sharing many post like this one…the Lafayette tragedy has hit too close to home. This lovely city is the heart of Acadiana, and this blog painted a beautiful picture of its tenacity, its strength, but most of all its hope to carry on. #LafayetteStrong

The Wilder Life

We say that God is good all of the time. And we say that we believe all things work together for the good of those who are called according to His purpose. And we say that what Satan means for evil, God uses for good.
And so what happens when the bad thing happens?
It happens every day. To other people. In other places. On those days I can’t pretend I don’t wonder. A lot. The promises of God never change. When evil knocks right on your front door? When he kicks it down and smashes all that safety and warmth. When it sits next to you in a theater and robs a city of beautiful young souls.
What do you believe?
Not my town. Not my town. Not my town. Isn’t that what lurks in the recesses of the mind when tragedy strikes? Sadness and even tearful sympathy…

Confessional Friday…

Soooo…I’ve never done this before, but I’m up for new experiences. Does anybody else confess on Fridays? If so, teach me!!!! But spell it out, because sometimes I just don’t get it. 🙂

1. I confess that I may have re-watched Jessica Lange’s rendition of Gods & Monster’s by Lana Del Ray about SEVEN times today. OMG, she KILLED it.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/23/jessica-lange-lana-del-rey_n_6031994.html

2. I confess that while I do love American Horror Story, it freaks me the hell out. As with any scary show, I’m always sitting with my eyes covered asking Terri to recap what happened. And geez, the clowns??? NOPE.

3. I confess that I’m a Wattpadder now. For the next 6 weeks, I’ll be posting a chapter a week of The Waiting on Wattpad to generate interest from that crowd. Only the Prologue plus the first five chapters though, which is what you get when you hit Amazon’s ‘Look Inside’ the book. I may or may not be posting my poetry (my first writing love) there too. The concept of Wattpad is new to me, but I think it’s a great way to share, and see some awesome talent. Here’s the link: http://www.wattpad.com/user/ElizabethBurgess8

That’s it for me!!!! Happy Friday!!!!

Review – Beyond Midnight: Asunder

asunder

This summer’s “Midnight Dynasty” left House of Crimson and Clover fans everywhere as broken as the Deschanel family of New Orleans. Like Tristan, we mulled over each word of Julianne and Ophelia’s diaries hoping to see something, anything that could help us figure out the curse. We witnessed Katja and Allain’s hopefulness turn to crippling despair. We fought – as Jacob did – to hold on to Amelia, the love of his life. And we listened to the summer rain with Nicholas as he held his little sister for the last time. But in true Cradit style, she tears you down – making you see and experience human emotion and raw pain – and then builds you back up again. Asunder is the mountaintop. Yes, you will be taken on another journey, but when you reach your destination… where two souls finally realize their destiny, it all will be worth it.

This is not a standalone book…you wouldn’t want it to be. Start at the beginning of this passion-filled series with St. Charles at Dusk, and don’t stop till you reach Beyond Midnight: Asunder. Then read it slow and often. 5 everlong stars.

***I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Beyond Midnight: Asunder is live today on all major retailers.

(Be sure and come back tomorrow as we feature Sarah for our Friday installment of author features.)
